A little show at the "Darsser Arche" which is an environmental centre near the National park "Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft". It is an area called Darss between the Baltic sea and an inland water called "Saaler Bodden" famous for resting cranes on their passage.

not doing enough
The beach combing season begins. Slowly - today it is +20°C warm, late October! I can´t await the first big autumn storm.

ICC 2012
The weather was stormy and sunny at the beginning and in the end it showered. Difficult to open the bag and prevent the trash from flying around. In this time of the year the German beaches are cleaned up by the tourist department. But I found this beach that wasn´t worth it (?!).

international coastal cleanup day
This is the essence of the Surfrider Ocean Initiatives 2012 from March this year. A knight fighting for "le fish tradition", a plastic rose, earplugs, cartridge case , a rope, plastic bags, fishing line, lighters, sand toys, plastic bottles - a classical mix.
Now is the time for the annual International Coastal Cleanup Day from Ocean Conservancy - 3.weekend in September. All over Germany there are just 3 registered cleanups. But as far as I know there are about 4-5 more from environmental organisations - NABU, DEEPWAVE. In the UK there are 120! beaches going to be cleaned up at the great MCS beach watch weekend!
I am going to do a small beach cleanup.

opening
Stralsund is a very old town with a lot of churches. The "Meeresmuseum" is located in an old monastery. I think a whale skelletton instead of an altar with a dead men hanging on a cross is a fantastic idea.
I am very happy that my collages arrived in an oceanographic museum - plastic litter is not really a nice subject. But it belongs there. The last two pictures are from a church from around 1250 with a lot of italian flair - it has not been renovated yet and has this wonderful morbide athmosphere. After renovation they will all get this dead and hostile touch.

exhibition
I am very proud to announce my exhibition at the "Meeresmuseum Stralsund" from June14 to September14, 2012. It is a maritime museum in the old town of Stralsund near the Baltic Sea. I am very happy to have the opportunity showing my collages there - it is a fantastic location for this subject.

350 climatedots
Yesterday was climatedot day from 350.org. People around the world did something to rise awareness for climate change.
I went again to my favourite trash beach and collected trash. Nothing to work with, just trash. 90% plastic - 90% plastic sheets. Nearby was one the first big cruise liners of the season with non stop running engines. The Baltic ferries going/comming every 2 hours. And they use real dirty diesel.

one month later
One month later it is still cold because of seawind. But it looks a lot nicer! It is frustrating because the same amount of trash is back again.

nachlese
Herzlichen Dank!!!

one year fukushima
Yesterday I saw a documentary. It showed a kindergarden in Fukushima where the children are not allowed to play outside because of the contamination. They where playing inside with piles of autumn leaves, sand, shells, stones - of course from southern Japan. Those children will never learn how it feels to play outside with these basic toys. Isn´t that depressing?
