Oh how lovely! Wonderful color choices. And the idea of putting found objects on a grid is much older than I am. The final work will look different for every artist who tries it. Check out Lisa Congdon's work, for example: http://collectionaday2010.blogspot.com. She was a big influence on me when I started experimenting. (And I'm not sure who in my family other than my stepmother actually reads my blog! After 8 months, I have 16 followers, and it is a thrill to know there are 12 people not related to me who find my work interesting.)
These pieces are beautiful! I went to art school and taught in non-profit art centers for years. I think you should have a show online that people could contribute to. An internet gallery of sorts of this beautiful work. I have a contact for you - email me :D thedailyocean@yahoo.com
Jenn - thank you! I checked out the collectionaday blog and it is very nice. Funny - I checked out thedailyocean. Which is another kind of collection a day.
Hi Anke, I just discovered your wonderful blog through Jenn's. I too love collecting from the beach but I'm in Sydney, Australia. I'm now following you! I would like to focus on the plastic problem all around us. Every time I walk on the beach I am at the same time fascinated and frightened about this side by side of nature and plastic. How the sea works on the debris and sometimes you don´t know what is what. The variety of beached items is immense and makes you wonder about their journey and the story behind.
My collages are about environmental awareness. It is so normal for us to be surrounded by plastic. I would like to sharpen the eye for this human footprints on the beach, in the ocean. Doing it with art is a nice way of learning.
For me it is very satisfying to combine the daily walk on the beach with a little cleanup and to recycle the plastic litter into art.
Hope you enjoy it!
