I made a trip to the Danish North sea. Soooo wonderful! In the dunes there is a lot of marine litter from the winter storms - but mostly under the sand. An Eldorado for me. But it takes a lot of walking. Someday I will stay a little longer after some fitness!
within the north atlantic and north pacific gyres there are up to 200,000 pieces of plastic litter floating on every squarekilometre (seaeducationassociation)
the decomposition of today`s plastics takes up to 600 years -
60-80% of all plastic litter reaches the ocean through the rivers - 60% of debris items are disposable (oceanconservancy)
The debris for my collages I found on the beaches of Warnemünde at the Baltic Sea - one of Germany`s most cleaned up tourist resorts.
I would like to focus on the plastic problem all around us. Every time I walk on the beach I am at the same time fascinated and frightened about this side by side of nature and plastic. How the sea works on the debris and sometimes you don´t know what is what. The variety of beached items is immense and makes you wonder about their journey and the story behind.
My collages are about environmental awareness. It is so normal for us to be surrounded by plastic. I would like to sharpen the eye for this human footprints on the beach, in the ocean. Doing it with art is a nice way of learning.
For me it is very satisfying to combine the daily walk on the beach with a little cleanup and to recycle the plastic litter into art.
Hope you enjoy it!
